Flood Watch
Kitsumkalum Skeena River (and tributaries)
Hazard Notice
Issued: 22 October 2025
A joint Hazard Notice has been issued by the Kitsumkalum Band, Kitselas First Nation, and the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine due to the BC River Forecast Centre’s Flood Watch Advisory issued on 22 October 2025 at 1500h.
Rivers are expected to rise rapidly on Thursday and into Friday in response to heavy rainfall. With the focus of heavier rainfall on the North Coast, rivers are forecast to potentially reach or exceed 5-year return period flows. Heavy rain and high streamflow bring increased risk for unstable banks, river erosion, submerged roads, swift water hazards, flooding and landslides.
Stay clear of the banks of swift running rivers and never drive across flooded roads, bridges or river crossings. At this time of year leaves can clog storm drains and impact urban drainage. Keep storm drains clear.
People in the area are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for changing conditions.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
- Avoid riverbanks and streams, as rising water levels increase the risk of dangerous conditions.
- Relocate any recreational vehicles, equipment, or property to from flood-prone areas to higher ground immediately.
- Stay informed by regularly checking Flood Warnings and Advisories issued by the River Forecast Centre. For more information visit: (www.bcrfc.env.gov.bc.ca)
