‘Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo School (NAGK) is seeking to fulfill a challenging but rewarding School Principal position for K-12, multi-grade classroom, school.  Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo School is certified and accredited by both the BC Ministry of Education and the First Nations School Association.  It is conveniently located 5km west of Terrace, BC on Hwy. 16.  Our school is situated at the confluence of the Skeena and Kalum Rivers in the beautiful community of Kitsumkalum.  The local Tsimshian territory plays a vital role in our dynamic educational environment to best serve the needs of the 80 students who attend, and their families.  NAGK education focuses on collaboration and co-planning to effectively differentiate in a project-based, experiential learning program.  The Tsimshian language (Sm’algyax) is foundational throughout our instructional program and is strongly supported by the community and its leadership.

Key Requirements for this position:        

  • Master’s degree in education, or accepted into a Master of Education program
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in a First Nations School
  • Good standing with the Teacher Regulation Branch and current BC Teaching Certification
  • Working knowledge of WebEx and LifeSize software and equipment for Connected Classrooms
  • Working knowledge of the FNESC/FNSA Special Education Program
  • Working knowledge of ReadWell, Corrective Reading, Reading Mastery and Saxon Math
  • Working knowledge of DIBELS and CAT4 testing for analysis and implementation school-wide
  • Working knowledge of the First Nations School Assessment and Growth Plan process
  • Working knowledge of BC’s new curriculum and the changes to High School Graduation requirements for the 2022-2023 school year
  • Working knowledge of and use of the DRUMS reporting system for BCTEA and Reciprocal Tuition, including TRAX for data transfer/submission to the Ministry of Education
  • Experience in best practice literacy and numeracy strategies. Candidates with strong numeracy and literacy background in SEP programming will be an asset
  • Experience with implementing the FNSA Teacher Evaluation policy
  • Active participation in First Nations Schools Professional Learning Communities
  • Must be willing to work collaboratively with staff members to meet school growth plan goals
  • Experience with respectfully supporting students, teachers and parents
  • Excellent classroom/team management skills
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Indigenous Ancestry, preferred
