About the Settlement

A network of hospitals across the country known as Federal Indian Hospitals were operated by the Government of Canada at various times between 1936 and 1981. During that time, people admitted to these Federal Indian Hospitals experienced harms including psychological, verbal, physical and/or sexual abuse.

On June 24, 2025, the Federal Court approved the Settlement Agreement, which provides compensation to eligible Primary Class Members who suffered harm, including psychological, verbal, physical and/or sexual abuse at a Federal Indian Hospital.
