Dear Kitsumkalum,
The Emergency Management Department has debriefed the current possible flooding situation and will continue to remain in a holding pattern with the activated EOC level 1. With the heavy rain and high heat, having appropriate resources available if needed is crucial. It is still strongly encouraged to self-monitor conditions and bring any concerns you may have to the Emergency Management Department. As always, calling 911 for all imminent concerns is advisable.
The next concern our community will face is wildland/forest fire(s). We together can ensure our community is prepared by trimming tall grass around houses, outbuildings, and stationary vehicles/RVs. It is recommended to have a garden hose readily available whenever an active fire is burning. Having an extinguisher when your BBQ is running is also encouraged to ensure fire safety in case of emergency. Please be proactive in keeping large items away from your homes that may pose a fire hazard.
The Emergency Management Department will continue to work with local and provincial resources to ensure immediate response/mitigation of flood and fire. Thank you for doing your part, ensuring our community remains safe as we navigate mother nature and the unique challenges it brings.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns.
Stay safe,
Joel Brousson
