Lower Skeena River Eulachon FSC Monitor Project: Job Posting

The Kitsumkalum Fish & Wildlife department is posting the Eulachon FSC Monitor project for the 2022 – 2023 season. The program will begin about mid- February of 2023 and completion about 31 of March. Two part-time seasonal field technicians will be needed to successfully complete the project. The starting wage will be $20.00 per hour.

Job Description

  • Scheduled travel along Highway 16, west of Terrace, as far as Tyee, with- in Traditional Kitsumkalum Harvest Sites
  • Harvest site visits
  • Monitor and record Eulachon activity, predation activity, river conditions, weather conditions and FSC harvest activity
  • A two-person crew will record all collected data

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of high school education
  • Post-secondary education and previous fisheries monitoring experience is an asset
  • Communication skills
  • Data collection experience
  • Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License
  • First Aid OFA Level 1
  • Swift Water Technician Level 1
  • MED A-3
  • Ability to safely conduct work on and around moving water
  • Ability to safely and respectfully interact with harvesters and public
  • Knowledge of Lower Skeena River
  • Traditional Tsimshian knowledge of FSC Eulachon

Duties

  • Ability to follow direction, from project supervisor
  • Ability to effectively work on own with associate technician
  • Ability to work flexible days and hours
  • Ability to work safely in all types of weather conditions
  • Record data collected on- site
  • Submit completed data to project supervisor at the end of each week
  • Respect Kitsumkalum machinery and equipment
  • Record daily mileage, fuel expenditures and safety forms
