Position: 5 days a week, 6-8 hours/day, January to December
Start date: Immediately
Starting wage for an ECE is $24.00
Where: Kitsumkalum First Nation on Reserve
Gila Kyew Nluułk Head Start and Daycare is seeking a Licensed Early Childhood Educator. The successful applicant will have multiple years experience in a Head Start setting or a daycare setting and be familiar with the Tsimshian culture. This position is for a team member that is a self starter and has strong positive interpersonal relationship skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. The position requires confidentiality and protection of the community member’s privacy. Time management, attention to details and computer skills are required. Must be able to lead a group of up to 16 children including those with diverse needs and diverse learning skills.
Qualifications and skills:
Early Childhood Educator with a valid License to practice in B.C.
Current First Aid Certification
Clear criminal record
Provide current medical and immunization records
Ensuring health and safety of children
Maintaining positive communication with parents
Excellent communication skills
Strong work ethic and ability to work with families
Foster the connection between home, daycare and community
Planning and implementing cultural and developmentally appropriate activities
Can create and follow multi-program classroom plans
Can implement plans for daily, weekly and monthly themed activities
Knowledge of the 6 components of Head Start
Worked in Canada or BC under the Canadian Child Care Act and Child Care Licensing Regulations
Ability to work in a multicultural program with indigenous children
Willingness to engage in the development of family activities and events
