The North Coast-Skeena First Nations Stewardship Society (NCSFNSS) is a non-profit society working in partnership with six BC North Coast First Nations on Marine Use Planning and Fisheries related initiatives. NCSFNSS is seeking a Marine Planning Coordinator to fill in for a one-year term maternity leave. The successful applicant will work with NCSFNSS member and partner Nations on marine planning processes.

Job Description

  • Coordinate the NCSFNSS participation in the planning and implementation activities of sub-regional and regional initiatives, including the Marine Plan Partnership (MaPP), the NSB Marine Protected Area Network planning process, and the Pacific North Coast Integrated Management Area (PNCIMA);
  • Work with technical staff from NCSFNSS member and partner Nations to assist in implementation of community marine use plans and coordinate input into sub-regional and regional activities;
  • Research, write and present Briefing Notes and Reports to the Board of Directors as required;
  • Liaise with First Nation technical staff/contractors from other regions to develop common approaches and strategies;
  • Liaise with the Province of BC and the Government of Canada on marine planning initiatives; and
  • Assist and support other NCSFNSS staff members in carrying out their duties.

Required Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in or related to marine planning, resource management, social and environmental sciences, and/or other relevant environmental discipline(s);
  • Superior technical writing, editing, and verbal communication skills;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and provide situational leadership;
  • Ability to take direction and to complete tasks in a timely manner;
  • Previous experience working with First Nations and stakeholders or in multidisciplinary groups;
  • Demonstrated experience working with, and understanding of, resource management related issues from a BC First Nations’ perspective; and
  • Project and contract management experience.

This position is based in Prince Rupert, BC with a start date of December 1, 2017, and a probationary period of three months. Compensation will be negotiated with the successful candidate based on qualifications.
