The City of Terrace is currently looking for a qualified applicant to fill the position of Programs Supervisor with the Leisure Services Department. Under the direction of the Director of Leisure Services, the Programs Supervisor will be responsible for identifying the recreation and leisure services needs within the community and for the delivery of programs in order to provide opportunities for sport and leisure pursuits for people of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Plan, implement and evaluate recreation programs and special events;
Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate program instructors, contract staff and volunteers to deliver recreation programs and special events;
Keep financial and activity records and prepare related reports;
Prepare facility schedules and assist with rental contracts for City facilities as required;
Understand the community social conditions and work with individuals and outside agencies, including schools and community groups, to stimulate interest and support for recreation activities for all;
Promote a healthy lifestyle by facilitating the development of sports and leisure clubs throughout the community;
Monitor the care and maintenance of facilities and equipment used for the delivery of recreation programs to ensure they are safe and operable;
Work cooperatively with other City Departments, clubs/organizations and the public;
Ensure that all programs are delivered in accordance with City policy and procedures, and relevant Provincial Regulations;
Compile, create and coordinate advertising and develop promotional materials for programs and healthy living;
Assist with budget recommendations and estimates relating to the provision of recreation programs;
Maintain a flexible work schedule, within the terms of the Collective Agreement, to assure reasonable contact with program instructors;
Other related duties, as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Secondary school graduation, plus post-secondary training in recreation, or equivalent related work experience;

Minimum of two years’ related work experience;
Computer experience, preferably in a Windows environment, with CLASS for Windows Program Registration and Facilities Booking and Word;
Ability to operate related equipment;
Good working knowledge of Provincial Regulations, as relates to the work involved;
Supervisory experience;
First Aid training;
Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, contract employees and the public;
Good written and oral communication skills;
Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence.

A criminal record check will be required to be provided by the successful applicants for this position.

This is a part time term position (CUPE Local 2012) working 30 hours/week (as required) for a duration of 6 months, approximately. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
