Our connection to the land, the rivers and the ocean is central to our social, cultural, and political life and helps maintain our ideologies as Kitsumkalum and as Tsimshian.
Smalgyax
Our Language
Sm’algyax is a dialect of the Tsimshian language spoken in northwestern British Columbia and southeastern Alaska. Sm’algyax means literally “real or true language.”
Our Culture
More than just a territory, our Laxyuup represents a way of life for the Kitsumkalum people. Everything we are has been built upon our relationship with the land and the ways it sustains us.

Kitsumkalum Band Council consists of seven Councillors and one Chief Councillor faithfully providing its people strong, accountable and effective governance.
