Community Fluency Project
Ama sah da k’wasm!
This project we are presenting works to create 5 beginner conversational Sm’algyax speakers from Kitsumkalum. Our first round will be 5 weeks, twice a week, one hour and a half each session.
These dates and times will be flexible to your needs and schedule. I hope to begin in mid-October and to be completed mid-November.
Our language has suffered through colonization and attempted erasure for decades and generations, let’s bring it back home. We honor the grief and loss we feel at these times of learning – we also honor the pure joy and love and laughter that Sm’algya̱x gives back to us! We want to continue nurturing the love of language learning and bring Sm’algya̱x back home to us, where it belongs.
My hopes and dreams for this project is that it will continue to grow stronger as adult learners and continue to build fluent speakers. To make our community strong in its teachings – to continue bringing it home.
Our sessions would be a closed learning space, to focus on improving fluency as much as possible. I understand that taking the time out of our days is a huge commitment, if you are devoted to taking time out of your day to strengthen Sm’algya̱x within your home and those around you – please sign up. This community fluency project will focus on 5 people, to keep the space secure and trusting – to focus on every step as we grow in confidence and curiosity.
I sincerely hope you are able to join me in this project.
