Kitsumkalum Band Council and Economic Development Group has the safety of community and citizens top of mind, and actions are underway and have been for a great deal of time to remove Larry McCarthy and drug dealers from their camp, the legal route is not a fast one.

The RCMP have been called and notified numerous times in 2020 and 2021 of their activity with no prevail to justice. The RCMP say there is not much they can do but keep the peace.

We do not get justice, we get the Canadian legal system. The Kitsumkalum Band Council and Administration have never granted permission for the individuals to set up a camp.

Kitsumkalum has a negotiator coming in to assist with pushing the RCMP to do their job in supporting Kitsumkalum Band Council and the community of Kitsumkalum.

These are violent individuals, known to police, known drug dealers, targeting young women.

An eviction notice has been issued and the RCMP continue to be on standby, but as we’ve experienced the RCMP will only act when a crime has been witnessed with clear evidence or a crime is in progress, again with clear evidence.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant, talk to your children, do not leave valuables out. Have your cameras ready and call 9-1-1 immediately to report suspicious activity as you see it to the RCMP.

Call 9-1-1 if you witness a crime and report theft. A facebook post hours after seeing suspicious activity does not help. Please call the RCMP immediately. Residents have noted people snooping around behind houses.

Reminder, these are dangerous violent individuals and Kitsumkalum Band Council is trying to deal with it, but without enforcement to help carry out our requests, we ask all community members to stay alert, keep windows and doors locked at night and when not at home.

CALL 9-1-1 IN ALL EMERGENCIES – DO NOT HESITATE
